The Clio is powered by some of the best engines in its class giving economical and polished performances. Around town the 1.2 litre is superb and if longer journeys are more common the 1.5 turbo diesel is both quiet and economical. The rear-wheel drive, rear-engined 3.0 V6, 230bhp certainly adds Va Va Voom to the range. Although handling has been improved on the latest Clio, thanks to an updated rear suspension, standard models still suffer from body roll and poor driver feedback - in contrast with the Dynamique and Renaultsport. Renault has enhanced the design of the cabin and controls on the latest Clio, which is now well laid out. However driver position is not brilliant, the steering could do with reach adjustments and seats are a little soft. The Clio's excellent all round visibility and compact design makes zipping around town a breeze. And the power steering, standard on all models, makes light work of parking.
